Today I'm going to break down the first steps of gaining access to newer versions of firmware for your PlayStation 2. The Playstation 2 is a great console that needs some extra love with these simple steps. Here are the 7 easy steps you need to take, in order, to do so: 1) Download and unzip codebreaker beta v7. 0 from here: http://www.mediafires...3-7-0-beta-v7.0.zip 2) Obtain a PS2 copy of Star Ocean 3 for PS2, which is a disc 2 dump of the first few seconds of the game, and is the first disc that has a .self on it. You can find a copy on many sites that archive PS2 images. Download from here: http://www.mediadump....1_ps2_usa_cd1_dual/ 3) In addition to downloading Star Ocean 3, you must also download Star Ocean 3 RAP file from here: http://rapidshare...93/SO3RAPLUS. rar 4) Download “FFShare” from here: http://www.bigfoot...m/ffshare.zip 5) Run FFShare and load up the RAP file for Star Ocean 3, then move it to the “PATCH” folder of your Codebreaker installation directory. 6) Download a copy of PatcherGUI v1.11 from here: http://www.megau...&get=98687110 7) Run PatcherGUI and click on the patch tab, then click on “Open", select SO3RAPLUS.SFO (this is the Rap file you downloaded earlier), and select Star Ocean 3 - Disc 1 (self). You should then be ready to flash the new firmware. Now that you have completed these steps, you can now flash your PS2 with the higher firmware. The software should be called "Arctic King" or something similar, and will install while you are playing Star Ocean 3. You should NOT use any firewire flashers while applying this new firmware because you risk bricking your PS2. Instead, unplug it for 10 seconds, let it rest for 2 minutes to settle down, and then plug it back in (at least that is what worked for me).
